Cheap Holidays In January

Published on June 28, 2012 by Sophie McGovern

After the busy Christmas and New Year period a holiday can be just the thing to break up the UK winter. If you are thinking of taking a trip at this time of year then the good news is that there are lots of bargains to be had, whether you're seeking sun and sand or snow and ski. Here is out guide to cheap holidays in January.

If you can, take your holiday after the first week in the month when school break is over. Flight prices drop later in the month, as do the costs of package deals. For those who can cope with a last minute arrangement, our advice is to book only a few weeks before your trip. This way, you will be able to find some excellently priced last minute deals on package holidays to ski resorts and sun destinations.

If it's sun you're seeking, you don't need to take an expensive long haul trip to find it. Although the Caribbean might be at its most beautiful in January, there are still plenty of more affordable spots that enjoy winter sun.  Some of the best value locations are the Canary Islands, which enjoy good weather all year round. Tenerife's beaches are perfect for sunbathing and swimming in January, with lots of great value family resorts around Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos.

If you want to venture somewhere different, why not try Egypt, where you can enjoy gorgeous weather at one of the Red Sea resorts. There are loads of family activities to keep the kids entertained including world-class SCUBA diving and snorkelling. Check out all inclusive package deals for the lowest family prices.

For cheap ski holidays, we recommend looking to Resorts in Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia. Bankso in Bulgaria is extremely popular, as is the Romanian resort of Semenic. As they are outside the eurozone, these countries offer great value on everything from accommodation to ski passes. Slovakia, too, is fast emerging as one of best ski destinations on the continent, and is excellent value.

Alternatively, take advantage of last minute ski deals to Austrian and French destinations. If you want to stay near the three valleys but don't mind being out of the main resorts, head to Brides les Baines for a cheaper ski package.

Romantic city breaks can be most enjoyable in wintertime when the streets are free from tourist crowds. You might well be lucky enough to find some of the continents most striking architecture draped in snow, and can enjoy cosy nights in traditional restaurants, bars and theatres. Prague, Budapest and Vilnius are three examples of romantic European winter destinations, all of which can be reached using low cost airlines.
