The second part of Richard Lodge’s excellent series on his backpacker travel style overland journey from the UK to Australia focuses on his journey from his home to Moscow.  Starting with cheap trips across to Brussels by Eurostar, this very useful short article outlines prices and journey times for each section of the trip, as well as suggesting some great stopovers. Cologne, for example, is one of the best holiday destinations in Europe with loads of cool things to do.

Stage 1: Dudley (UK) to Moscow (Russia)

The start point for my journey was Dudley but wherever you start in the UK you will need to get to London to get the Eurostar into Europe. Please note that not all overland journeys from the UK have to start in London and you could use any of the many ports around the country to sail to destinations in Europe and around the world.

When I travelled this route I opted to travel non-stop leaving home in Dudley at 7am on day 1 and getting to Moscow at 11:45am on day 3. This should give you an idea of the massive distance being travelled and how long it takes to cover these distances overland, bearing in mind that it only takes 24hours to fly to Australia.
