Today is the first day of the new easyJet Holidays promotion; 100 holidays for £100.

easyJet aren't the first company to try and generate some hype around their website by offering great deals if you book on a certain day; in fact they aren't even the first people to do it on a Friday. In the past similar promotions have disappointed because after weeks of publicity the flights or holidays on sale turn out to be to totally unsuitable destinations or not to be quite as 'cheap' as suggested. Will the easyJet Holidays promotion be any better?

Well in a word, yes. As easyJet announced earlier this week the holidays on offer are all to European destinations with a reasonable mix between city breaks and beach holidays. Depending on location you can stay for anything between 2 and 7 nights and there are dates right up to March of 2012.

When I checked out the website this morning I found a really good range of holidays on offer. The first thing that struck me when I went into a few of the holidays to look at the details is that they have actually given some thought to the times of the flights. I was really pleased to see that on a two night city break you are typically flying home at around the same time of day that you arrive, which means you do get a full 48 hours in the destination you have chosen. Not all of the dates are weekends, you may need to be a bit flexible about travelling midweek to get your first choice destination, but with departures up to six months away that shouldn't be a problem for most.

The next thing that noticed was that there really are some seven night breaks on there. There aren’t as many of them as there were shorter breaks, but there were some (from a number of airports) and they weren't all sold out when I looked either. If you are willing to drop down to five nights there is even more choice. There is even a reasonable choice of airports to depart from.

I first looked at the website this morning and there was availability on most options. Even at time of writing (9am) there were only a handful that are totally sold out, so it is worth jumping online and taking a look for yourself. If you are holding out until next week (or indeed any Friday for the next 6 weeks) then I would advise getting on early. I can only assume that as word spreads the holidays will sell faster.

The final question with any promotion like this though, is what about the hidden charges? Are there any and if so how much?

There are some charges, but to be honest they aren't too bad. Firstly, easyJet are a budget airline so bags are optional. At £18 per bag it's not going to break the bank though. The website will automatically assume that you want two bags, but you can easily change that to one bag between two if that is all you want for a shorter break. You will also be charged for paying using any card but a visa electron card. Transfers and travel insurance are also optional extras.

The real deal: Assuming that you do want a bag each and that you are paying on a normal debit card you are going to be looking at £244 for a holiday for two people. You really can't say fairer than that!

You will find the easyJet holidays for £100 here.
