As the dark winter nights in the UK set in, many of us start to dream of escaping the cold for a bit of winter sun. Determined as ever to bring you advice on the best holiday destinations, we decided to ask a few of a our favourite travel bloggers for their tips on the best winter sun destinations:
Koh Mak: A Wonderfully Quiet Thai Island from Never Ending Voyage
Thailand is becoming an increasingly popular holiday destination causing reservations for those looking for a deserted tropical paradise. Erin however, has some fascinating insights into a quiet island where you won’t bump into thousands of people partying on a beach. She describes a peaceful and barely discovered island of Koh Mak in the south of Thailand. There are few cars, or even tourists on this small island. Sally from Tripbod has just returned from Jordan where the weather is still great with sunny days and temperatures continue to stretch into the 20s. Sally enjoyed an authentic local food experience in Amman where she learned to cook a number of traditional dishes ‘just like Grandma used to make.” Betti Sidi sounds amazing and this is just the kind of unique experience that Tripbod has rightly become so well known for. Barbara’s winter sun recommendation is Mexico; specifically the Riviera Maya on the country’s caribbean coast. Barbara stayed in gorgeous Playa del Carmen and in this post describes the exciting experience of exploring Rio Secreto. Deep below the Yukaton Peninsula, this underground river and cave complex remained undiscovered until the late 90s.
