Edinburgh Airport is the busiest airport in Scotland, with eight and a half million people travelling through every year. Always expanding, these figures are set to rise over the coming years for Edinburgh to nudge its way into the top 5 busiest UK airports.

EasyJet, Ryanair and Jet2.com all operate frequent flights from Edinburgh, making it a popular choice for those wishing to spend less on their flights. As well as all the most popular European destinations, regular flights also run to Mexico (from summer 2012), USA and North Africa. See below for a full list of the 100+ destinations.

Getting to Edinburgh Airport

By car

Edinburgh Airport is located eight miles west of Edinburgh city centre. Programme EH12 9DN into your sat nav.

From Edinburgh, head towards Glasgow on the A8. You will then see signs for the airport turn off which lies 8 miles along this road.

From the north and west, follow signs for Edinburgh A8 at Newbridge roundabout. You will then see signs for the airport junction.

The airport is easily reached from the M8 and M9 motorways. Follow signs for the A8 Glasgow Road.

For drop off and pick up, there is clear signage to the Drop Off area on the airport approach road. Note that the green lane is for public transport only. To pick up passengers, head to the Short Stay Car Park, which is clearly signed. It is then a short walk to the arrivals halls. Car park fees apply in this instance.

In terms of Edinburgh Airport parking, there are several pre-bookable options. It is advisable to book before your visit, as this will dramatically cut parking costs.

The Short Stay Car Parks are signposted on the approach road, and are a few minute’s walk from check in and arrivals. These are the best options for cars dropping passengers off, or those staying anywhere between a few hours and three days. The car parks are a 5-10 minute walk from the terminal and cost £4.50 per hour. You can save money and secure a closer space by booking online. Blue badge holders can stay in the car park free for up to 15 minutes.

The Long Stay Car Park is a short bus ride from the terminal. Buses are free and run every 10 minutes, taking 5 minutes to reach the terminal. Follow the clear signage on the approach road or programme EH12 9DN into your sat nav. The car park has optimum security measures in place and has Park Mark accreditation.

The most convenient parking option is fastTRACK Parking. There is a dedicated entry lane for visitors who have booked this option, making it extremely quick and convenient. From the car park it is then a minute’s walk to check-in. Book in advance, as there are only 150 bays.

Another option is to stay at an airport hotel before you travel. Some include a parking deal option by which you can leave your car for an additional hotel fee. You can compare the price of Edinburgh Airport hotels online and view parking deals.

By Taxi

There are three taxi ranks at Edinburgh airport. The journey to Edinburgh city centre takes approximately 25 minutes.
Onward Travel run private hire taxis from outside UK Arrivals on the east end of the Terminal building.

Edinburgh City Private Hire have pre-bookable cars and are located on the ground floor of the multi-storey car park opposite the Terminal.  Black Cabs can also be found at the east end of the terminal building.

By Train

It is not possible to take a train directly to the airport. Passengers will need to travel to one of Edinburgh’s city train stations: either Waverley or Haymarket. It is then possible to take a bus or taxi to the airport. Bus service Airlink 100 runs for this purpose during the day, and calls at both stations. A single costs £3.50 and a return £6. The journey takes 25-30 minutes. It arriving at night, take the N22 which runs from Waverley station only (see By bus).

Direct rail services run from Glasgow, Inverness, Aberdeen and a selection of other Scottish stations. Manchester, London Kings Cross, Birmingham, Leeds and several other English destinations all have direct links.

By Tram

A tram service also links Edinburgh city with the airport. Stops include Edinburgh Park, Haymarket and Waverly rail stations, Murrayfield Stadium, Princes Street and Ocean Terminal.

By Bus

Buses from Edinburgh stop outside the main entrance to the terminal. Bus service Airlink 100 runs all day, and calls at both train stations in Edinburgh (Waverly and Haymarket) and the bus stations.  Buses run every 10 minutes and the journey takes 25-30 minutes. Early morning services run every 20 minutes. A single costs £3.50 and a return £6.

If arriving at night, take the N22 which runs between 00.47 and 04.13. The bus comes every 20 minutes and the journey takes approximately 28 minutes. From the Ocean Terminal in Leith it runs to the city centre and through South Gyle before arriving at the airport. It is £3 for the night.

From Lothian, take service 35 which runs to the city centre and on to Ocean Terminal. Buses run every 15 minutes Monday to Saturday daytime and every 30 minutes evenings and Sundays. The journey takes approximately one hour and tickets cost £1.30 for a single, £3.20 for a day ticket. Stops include RBS World Headquarters, The Scottish Parliament and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

From Fife, take the Jet 747 Stagecoach service which runs from Inverkeithing rail station and Ferrytoll Park and Ride (where the Megabus drops off). Buses run every 20 minutes between Monday and Saturday and hourly on Sundays. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes and tickets costs £4.60 for a single, £8.30 return (within 28 days).

From further afield, coaches run to Edinburgh city centre. National Express and Megabus offer services from all major English and Scottish cities, many of which stop at Ferrytoll Park and Ride from which you can catch the connecting Jet 747 Stagecoach service to the airport. Scottish Citylink is the other option, which offer services from all over Scotland to Edinburgh’s main bus station in Elder Street.  Some services also call at Waverley Bridge. You can catch the Airlink 100 bus to the airport from both of these locations.
