Holiday Ideas For Couples
Activity holidays
If you have a shared interest, you could consider combining this into your holiday. It’s win-win: you both get to do the things you enjoy at home but with different food, language and hopefully improved weather, an activity holiday will strengthen the bond between you and also give you a chance to hone your skills. Like painting - how about a week painting the sun-kissed Tuscan hills? Do you both love cycling? Why not consider a weekend whizzing around bike-friendly picturesque Amsterdam? Or perhaps you have a shared appreciate of good food and wine – you could indulge in a wine tasting course or a culinary class to learn the cuisine of the region…There are so many activities for couples to choose from, you are bound to find something you will both love to do.
Staycations
Don’t think that just because you’re booking a holiday, it has to be far away or expensive to feel like a proper break. Nipping up to Scotland on the motorway to stay in a remote cottage in the Highlands with a log fire in winter or taking the train to Cornwall for long walks along the beach with an ice cream in the summer can cost less than you think. You will also save the pre-holiday stresses of playing hunt the passport and trying to calculate the best exchange rates against the weakening pound and no long queues at Heathrow for you! Britain has some amazing heritage sites, beautiful countryside, award winning cuisine…there’s a reason why millions of tourist flock here every year, join them!
Adult only holidays
If you’ve got children, a family holiday can leave you more exhausted than before you left. If you haven’t got children, a holiday where there are lots of families and young children joyously shrieking and running around can feel less relaxing than planned. Adult only holidays offer the perfect solution for both camps – a chance to enjoy a holiday with just the two of you with no interruptions. There are many companies offering 16 or 18 and over holidays, from far flung Caribbean hideaways to cosy destinations closer to home, meaning a getaway without your kids (or someone else’s!) is easier to arrange than ever.
Romantic holidays
Some holidays just ooze romance. Italy seems to have more than its fair share of romantic destinations, with Rome, Florence and Venice being deservedly popular, but there are plenty of other romantic holiday ideas that could suit you. The key to a romantic holiday is planning – if she’s a beach person a trip to Paris might not go down too well! Agree what you both find romantic and what you want out of the holiday and go from there: some couples love walking hand-in-hand down quiet little cobbled streets (try the Algarve) whereas some find being caught up in bright city lights with a buzzing atmosphere thrilling (think New York). Some couples prefer to be holed up in an overwater beach hut with nothing but white sands and turquoise waters greeting them each morning - the Maldives or the Seychelles would suit them better. Maybe sharing a new experience would be romantic for you both - consider a winter wonderland trip from Russia through to China on the TransMongolian express.
