The second largest city in Egypt, on the eastern coastline, lies Hurghada, with a total population of 248,000. It's divided into three areas, the older downtown area of El Dahar, Sekalla, the city centre, and El Memsha, a more modern sector. It's famous with tourists for its scuba diving, as well as being well-suited to beginner divers.
