Guide to Freetown

map
Sierra Leone's largest city, Freetown, has a population of 772,000 people. It lies to the far west of the country, on the Sierra Leone River, at the foot of the Peninsula Mountains, and enjoys a tropical climate. Freetown is known for some of the best beaches in Africa, and for its large, deep natural harbour, the city's hub. Check out the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary - a must for animal lovers - get some heritage at the National Rail Museum, and visit the idyllic No. 2 Beach a short drive from the city, made famous by a Bounty advert in the 1970s!
