Lungi, across the Sierra Leone River from Freetown itself is the inconvenient location of the airport, so all Sierra Leone flights arrive here. Travelling on to Freetown is more difficult than you might expect, particularly as most Sierra Leone flights arrive at night. There are a number of options for onward travel, the most popular of which is the pelican water taxi. At present though, the foreign and commonwealth office advises against travel by water during the hours of darkness. If you wish to travel by pelican water taxi, or by the substantially cheaper ferry, the FCO advises staying overnight in Lungi. While not actively recommending the Lungi Airport Hotel, which is not the best of Sierra Leone hotels, it is close to the airport and accounts from travellers who chose different (cheaper) hotels would make me stay here again.
