The capital city of Inner Mongolia, in north-central China, Hohhot has a population of around 1.6 million inhabitants, which is steadily increasing. Known for its historic sites, and as a major tourist destination, the city is brimming with culture. Its oldest monastery, De Zhao Temple, dates back to 1579. Don't miss the Temple of the Five Pagodas, which features 1500 carvings of Buddha on its walls.
