One of the newest and largest cities in Japan, Sapporo is located on the Toyohira River, in the southwest of the Ishikari Plain. It's surrounded by mountains, and has a total population of 1.9 million people. Sapporo is on the island of Hokkaido, enjoys snowy winters and might be best known to westerners for the beer which is brewed here. The city has many pretty flower parks, including Asahiyama and Odori. Don't miss the chocolate factory for a truly touristy, but fun, experience!
