Taiwan's capital city, Taipei, is located on the river Tamsui, towards the northern tip of the island. Its two rivers, the Xindian and the Tamsui border it on the south and west, and it rises to 1,120 metres at Cising Mountain, an extinct volcano. Taipei's predominant language is Mandarin, and its landmark has to be Taipei 101, the second tallest skyscraper in the world. Don't miss the many hot springs located around the city, at Beitou, Wulai and Yangmingshan National Park.
