In Northern Australia lies the town of Cooper Pedy, around 846 kilometres from Adelaide. It has a tiny population of just 1,916 people, and is well-known for its opal mines, and for its remoteness. Most of its inhabitants live underground, away from the harsh summer climate of the outback. As well as the mine areas which are open to tourists, the town has several shops where visitors can purchase beautiful opal stones and jewellery. Don't miss the night sky, the remote outback is one of the clearest places to gaze at constellations in the world.
