Launceston is Tasmania's second largest city, and is located on the Tamar River, to the north of the state. With a population of around 106,000 people, it is Australia's ninth largest city. A former port, Launceston's estuary is still navigable by cruise ships, and it is well located for the Tamar Island Wetlands, as well as Cataract Gorge.
