Guide to Launceston

map
Launceston is Tasmania's second largest city, and is located on the Tamar River, to the north of the state. With a population of around 106,000 people, it is Australia's ninth largest city. A former port, Launceston's estuary is still navigable by cruise ships, and it is well located for the Tamar Island Wetlands, as well as Cataract Gorge. Don't miss the fantastic wineries located in the nearby valley, and the Launceston Ghost Tour!
