A small region with a population of around 2,000 people, Mclaren Vale lies to the north of the Selicks Hill Range, and around 35km to the south of Adelaide, its nearest city. Enjoying a Mediterranean climate, McLaren Vale is one of the world's most famous wine regions, and predominantly produces Shiraz, though other varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Chardonnay. There are plenty of places to sample the local produce from the town, and the local cheese and wine trail is highly recommended for beginners and gourmands alike.
