The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is home to some of the biggest events of the Australian sporting calendar. The Boxing Day Test and the AFL Grand Final are both held here annually, and the stadium has played host to international events such as the 1956 Olympics and the 2006 Commonwealth Games. ‘The G’ as it is often known, holds a special place in the heart of most Melburnians (if not most Australians). The best way to see the MCG is to take yourself along to one of the many AFL games or cricket matches played there, but for those who love to see behind the scenes, there is the opportunity to take a 1 hour tour of the ground for $20. For an additional $10 you can also visit the National Museum of Sport (free to backpackers who purchase an MCG tour)
