Despite being just a few kilometres from the CBD, Melbourne Zoo manages to give visitors the feeling of being in a totally wild habitat. Although every zoo visitor has their favourites, arguably the two most impressive habitats are those of the indigenous animals and the tigers. Animals such as kangaroos and emus have a large area given over to them where visitors walk among the animals rather than being fenced off from them, which is an interesting experience. The tigers, of course, are quite rightly fenced off from visitors! Their habitat, however, is very nicely done and you really have the feeling of walking in an Asian rainforest. The nearby Thai village where you can purchase food is also quite cool.
