Guide to Phillip Island

map
Around 140 kilometres south of Melbourne lies Phillip Island. It is connected to the mainland by a 640 metre bridge, which links the towns of San Remo on the mainland to the town of Newhaven on the island. The island has a population of just over 7,000 people, and is a popular tourist destination, as well as a destination for motorsport fans as host to the Australian Grand Prix. Don't miss the penguin parade on Summerland Beach, a sunset wildlife attraction which involves the birds coming inland to nest. There's also a Koala Conservation centre, and the pretty fishing village of Rhyll.
