Guide to Port Arthur

map
A former convict settlement in the Tasman Peninsula, Port Arthur in Tasmania lies around 100 kilometres from Hobart, its capital, and has a total population of 500 people. The small settlement is Tasmania's most popular tourist destination, and is a recognised World Heritage Site. Wander through the corridors of the old penitentiary, take a boat trip out to the spookily-dubbed Dead Island to wander its graveyard, or go one better and take the terrifying historic ghost tour.
