Guide to Rarotonga

map
With a total population of almost 14,000 people, Rarotonga is the populous of the Cook Islands, and its capital is the town of Avarua. A former volcano, the island rises to 2,100 feet and is surrounded by a lagoon which descends into the reefscape which enspheres the peninsula. It lies to the south of the other islands, and is served by its own international airport. Don't miss the fantastic opportunities for scuba diving in the area, with wrecks, caves and tropical fish. Sample the local tipple at one of the island's micro-breweries!
