In the South Pacific Sea, around 4,400 km from Hawaii lies the French Polynesian island of Tahiti. It's a volcanic island, and has a total population of 178,000 people. Its capital is called Papeete, which lies on the northwest coast of the island, though other towns include Papenoo and Hitiaa. Tahiti is known for its natural beauty, its friendliness and its magnificent white sands. It's also a popular wedding destination. If you're feeling daring, get a tattoo on the island, or for something less permanent, get a black pearl as a souvenir instead.
