The Osa Peninsular curves from the southeast coast of Costa Rica and is a nature lover’s paradise. Also laden with historical significance, it was here that the ancient Diqui civilization found gold and used it to make their exquisite jewellery and charms. Gold panners can still be spotted in the area today, and the coveted resource is far from depleted. Equally as precious, though, are the delicate ecosystems that exist within Osa’s beautiful landscape. Parque Nacional Corcovado is the main reason for visiting the peninsula- a paradise of tropical jungle, deserted beaches, waterfalls and wildlife. Hiking and camping are the traditional ways to experience the park, trails providing abundant opportunities for bird watching and animal spotting. Scientists flock to study the unique array of trees and diverse ecosystems there, from mangrove swamps to tropical forest.
