The Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico is the most popular haunt in the country for travellers of all kinds, from beach bound couples to jungle trekkers and culture seekers. There is no greater reason for this than the Caribbean coast, where reefs, clear waters and pristine beaches create a Mexican paradise. Flights into Cancun airport offer easy links to Playa del Carmen, but the fact that national roads did not reach it until the 1960’s has enabled it to retain its traditions and culture.
