Belgium is located at the crossroads of Western Europe, nestling snugly between France, Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Belgium touches its northern coastline to the Atlantic Ocean, and is densely populated, with almost 11 million people lodging in its relatively diminutive land area of 30,500 kilometres square. A notoriously flat country, Belgium stretches coastal plain along its north-west and central plateau, only rising into the Ardennes in the south-east. The country is divided into three regions.
