Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic after the country’s capital, Prague. Located in the east, in the historic region of Moravia (which is serves as capital to), this charming city is full of character, with wide boulevards and well-kept parks and gardens framing the city’s architecture. Quieter than its capital competitor, the city lies in a basin of the Svratka and Svitava rivers, surrounded on three sides by forested hills: 28% of the city is officially recognised as woodland. The population is small, with fewer than 400,000 inhabitants, but this is university territory: Brno boasts no fewer than 11 universities, so the city quickly fills up.
