Highlights of a visit to La Rochelle include a stroll around the old port; there are some great views from the top of the defensive tower which was originally built to defend the town against the English. You can also check out the yachts moored at the Port Minimes or just chill out on the excellent beaches. You can take a boat ride out to Fort Boyard, which is said to be haunted and is perhaps most famous for the TV game show set there. The aquarium is also worth a visit.
