There is plenty to do around town when visiting Marseille, France’s second largest city. It is worth taking a ferry across the harbor of the old port, there are tourist boats but the ferry offers stunning views of the town at public transport prices. You can also take a longer boat ride out to the Chateau d’Ilf, the famous island prison of the Count of Monte Cristo.
Shop, or just hang out in the many cafes and restaurants on the trendy Place Jean Joures, known to locals as ‘La Plaine’ or maybe head to the area around Noailles Metro to check out the cool Arabic and African shops.
There are shuttles out to the ski resorts of the southern alps every Saturday and there are also great diving, windsurfing and water skiing options available within easy reach of town.
