A city on the southern coastline of France, Nimes has a population of around 140,000 people and is well known to tourists for its rich history, in particular its Roman Ampitheatre, dating back to the first or second century AD. Don't miss the Gardens of the Fountain, another well-preserved Roman treasure with statues and the temple of Diane. Don't miss the nearby Pont du Gard, a Roman aqueduct around 25km from the city centre.
