Guide to Pau

map
Just 50 kilometres from the Spanish border and the Pyrenees lays the French commune of Pau. It is situated on an elevation overlooking the Gave de Pau River, and has a total population of almost 85,000 inhabitants. As well has having its own fairy-tale chateau, the town is famous as the birthplace of Henry IV of France. Its mountain view is not to be missed, and this little place has impressed charmed historical figures from Napoleon to Mary Lincoln.
