To the far east of France, near the German border lies the city of Strasbourg, on the Ill River and around 25 kilometres from the Black Forest. It has a population of around 272,000 people. Known as the official seat of the European Parliament, Strasbourg is also famous for being German speaking, and for its UNESCO recognised Grand Ile, the town's historic centre. Wander through the charming timbered streets of Petit France, and check the time at the Astrometric Clock in Strasbourg's cathedral.
