On the banks of the River Garonna, and split by the Canals de Garonne and du Midi, the city of Toulouse lies approximately 590 kilometres from Paris, and has a total population of over 1.1 million people. It's also near the Pyrenees and at the halfway point between the Atlantic and Mediterranean Seas. It's well known as a centre of spaceflight, and is also the site of a former Roman settlement. Remember to visit the Roman Catholic cathedral of Saint-Etienne, once of France's national monuments!
