Famous (or infamous) for Oktoberfest, Munich has a lot more to offer visitors than one beer fuelled festival and is well worth visiting year round. Having said that, the beer is really good! Why not enjoy a stein in the sun at one of Munich's many beer gardens? There is a great beer garden in the Englischer Garten, but do watch out for the nudists while strolling through the gardens! Alongside the beer gardens there are beer halls in abundance. The most famous is the Hofbrauhaus, but don't overlook others such as the Augustiner. The food in Munich is fantastic. It's definitely heavy on the pork, but truly delicious. Don’t leave without trying the Schweinshaxe, also visit the Viktualienmarkt for cheap eats and yet another awesome beer garden.
Munich is a pleasant city with some interesting architecture. Take the time to admire the slightly naff glochenspiel, it’s arguably even more disappointing than the one in Prague it is still good old fashioned fun and worth a look. There are also opportunities for a number of interesting day trips out of Munich. The nearby Bavarian Alps are home to the fairy tale castle of Neuschwanstein. This incredibly folly, built by mad King Ludvig is well worth a trip out of the city.
