Located in central Europe, Hungary is entirely landlocked, and encircled by Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria. Hungary is made up partly of flat or rolling plains; the rest includes the hilly region of Transdanubia, where the Alps trickle from the east, along with the Tansdanubian, Mecsek and Villany Mountains. Its highest peas are near the border with Slovakia, where Kekes reaches 3,300 feet. Its main river is the Danube, and Hungary has a total population of a little more than 10 million people. Hungary’s capital, Budapest, is situated in the centre of the country, and has a population of 1.7 million. Hungary has the largest lake in Europe, and is also known for being largely accessible, greatly diverse, and culturally distinctive. It’s one of the 15 most popular tourist destinations in the world.
