After Belfast, Derry is the largest city in Northern Ireland, with a total population of 237,000 inhabitants in the metropolitan area. Spanning both banks of the River Foyle, the city is close to the border with Donegal and the oldest city in the country. The area has a cosmopolitan, youthful feel, and a lively music and pub scene. Check out the largely intact city walls which date from the 16th century, and don't miss the Halloween carnival if you're visiting in autumn, it's an international party!
