Reaching along the southern coastline of Salerno in Italy, the Amalfi Coast is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known for its terraced lemon gardens, as the muse of writers John Steinbeck and William James and its stratified, bright houses, the town of Amalfi lies at the mouth of a ravine and has a population of 5500 people. Sample some incredible mediaeval architecture in the 11th century cathedral of St Andrews, or visit the open air museum of Chiostro del Paradiso, an open air museum and cloisters.
