The chianti region of Tuscany in the northwest of Italy covers a wide area and is famously home to the red wine of the same name. The area is draped in vineyards, scattered with medieval hilltop villages and ripe with wine cellars to be explored. Don't miss Panzano, the region's most populous city, with a Romanesque basilica which displays artwork, and a quaint town square in which to sip wine and atmosphere.
