The perfectly preserved ruins of the Roman towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum just outside the city are probably the biggest attraction for visitors to Naples. The eruption of Vesuvius has preserved a snap shot of life is AD79. Many visitors are also here to visit Sorrento and the gorgeous Amalphi Coast. Don’t forget Naples itself though as the city is well worth taking the time to explore.
While you are here visit the Catacombs di San Gennaro, accessed from the church of the same name. These amazing catacombs were in use for almost ten centuries and home to some amazing frescos. Also visit the Duomo (cathedral) to admire the two main chapels or to assess the ancient basilica and the original Roman temple beneath the cathedral.
