Guide to Sermoneta

map

Sermoneta is a magical, carefully preserved medieval town on top of a hill overlooking the Pontine plain towards the sea.  It's located about 70 kms south of Rome which is a 40 min. train journey away.

It's layout and most of the original buildings are intact and the castle is well worth a visit.  Exploring its small cobbled streets is like taking a step back in time, although in Spring and Summer it comes alive with open-air concerts and theatre.

It's an ideal stop-over for those who want to spend a few days outside the cities, sample some of the local cuisine, go for panoramic walks in the mountains or simply watch local life go by from one of the bars in the piazza.
