Travel in Russia is a fantastic adventure. When I first arrived in Russia it seemed a little intimidating, it’s so big and impressive and anyone in a hat looks like a James Bond baddie. It really is worth taking your time to get under the skin of this massive country though because underneath that gruff and hard exterior, you will find a country and a people full of warmth.
I can’t count the numbers of acts of simple hospitality and kindness that we received while travelling through Russia. From the woman who literally walked us to the door of our hostel when she saw us studying a map by the metro station, to the lads from Irkutsk who shared their vodka with us, we appreciated every gesture.
