Located between Central and Southeast Europe, Serbia is landlocked, surrounded by the countries of Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, the Republic of Macedonia and Croatia. It has a total population of 7.1 million inhabitants, and its capital city is Belgrade. The country has many mountainous regions, including the Carpathians, the Dinaric Alps and the Balkans, and is riven by the Danube. With national parks, medieval castles and fortresses and traditional villages, Serbia is increasingly popular with tourists, especially in summer months. Don't miss Studenica monastery, a World Heritage Site near Kraljevo.
