It may be one of Europe's smallest capitals, but Ljubljana is very cosmopolitan city. The River Ljubljanica, which flows through the city centre, is festooned with elaborate old bridges whilst the mix of Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings along the riverside contain some great places to eat and drink. Admire the Old Town as it rises up towards the peak of the 12th-century castle.
