La Tramoia restaurant in Barcelona enjoys an ideal position on one of the liveliest corners of the city with fantastic views over La Rambla and the Gran Via. The décor seems like a bit of a charmingly mad concoction with classical pillars, tiled floors, and antique bits and pieces, until you know that La Tramoia translates as ‘backstage’ and the penny drops. Not only does it have that behind-the-scenes feeling, but you can also watch the chef at the grill upstairs. Downstairs the menu is classic, delectable tapas laid out, as is tradition, on the countertop with a mass of daily blackboard specials. Upstairs the menu centres on the holm oak grill and you can choose toasted bread catalan style, grilled meats Argentinian style or various brochettes of this and that. The ambience is vibrant and fun. This is a Barcelona favourite, especially the al fresco terrace. La Tramoia also translates as a swindle, or the unseen negotiations that put a deal together. So it would be ideal for relaxed business entertaining and nb, it’s handicap accessible.
