Guide to Lanzarote

map

The spectacular volcanic island of Lanzarote owes a lot to two men, although many of the thousands who enjoy Lanzarote holidays each year possibly don’t know it. The most important is Cesar Manrique, the visionary artist who did so much to ensure that tourism didn’t destroy the rugged beauty of the island. Local Transport

Lanzarote has a reasonably effective network of buses, most of which run via Arrecife. Where this tends to fall down is when you are travelling from Lanzarote Airport to the main resorts of Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise. This involves a frustrating and time consuming journey and taking a transfer is much easier. There are direct services to Teguise Market from the coastal resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca. Teguise and its market make for a lovely day out. The former capital is barely touched by tourism (despite being easily accessible) and you are able to get a real glimpse of Lanzarote life pre tourism.
