Introduction to Pamplona

Pamplona has a fascinating old town centre of narrow streets with towering shuttered buildings creating a very atmospheric impression. The city is perhaps most famous for the spectacular madness of the running of the bulls which takes place every July at the festival of San Fermin, made famous by Ernest Hemingway. At the time of the festival, the city seems to be bursting with tourists and accommodation is fully booked and at a premium in terms of the cost. However, those who book ahead are assured of a fantastic time with memorable sites as the city is filled with daring folk dressed in the bull running uniform of white outfits with red bandanas. Bull running tales place also in some of the small towns of the region such as Puenta la Reina and Estella. Wandering around the old part of Pamplona at any time of year will leave you with memories that you will never forget. For me, it was like stepping back in time to another age.
