Guide to Salamanca

map
With a population of over 190,000 people Salamanca lies to the west of Spain, between Madrid and the Portuguese border. Built on the hills beside the Tormes River, the city has one of the oldest Universities in Spain, and its historic cityscape has earned it World Heritage status. Check out the Roman Bridge which straddles the Tormes, the Plaza Major with its busy cafe culture, and don't miss the September festival of the Virgin de la Vega!
