Guide to Istanbul

map
Turkey's largest city, with a population of over 8.8 million people living in its city area, Istanbul is located in north-western Turkey. The city is divided by the Bosporus into a European side and an Asian side. Like many ancient cities, it's said to be built on seven hills. It was a European Capital of Culture in 2010 and was formerly known and Byzantium and Constantinople. With buildings dating from Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods, the city has a diverse wealth of architecture to be explored. Don't neglect to visit a Turkish bath, or hamam, during your stay for a truly authentic experience!
