Guide to Chester

map
Located on the River Dee, the picturesque market city of Chester has a population of 118,000 inhabitants. It lies close to the Irish Sea, and was founded as a Roman Fort, following the castrum town layout. It's also a walled city and is the gateway to North Wales. Visit its Roman Amphitheatre for a look back at its formidable history, take a boat along the River Dee, or spend a day at Chester Zoo, one of the best in Europe, with its own free-flying bat cave!
