Guide to Durham

map
In the northeast of England, to the south of Newcastle, lies the cathedral and university city of Durham, with a population of 29,000 residents. Ensphered by a loop in the River Wear known as the Peninsula, the city is peppered with stratified sights including a large cathedral, Durham Castle which is a recognised World Heritage Site and the Treasures of Saint Cuthbert, a collection of artefacts worth closer inspection. If it's fine, walk along the scenic banks of the Wear, at night the cathedral provides a chilling backdrop to one of the city's ghost walks!
