There are no direct train services between Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. It is necessary to change trains in Butterworth. The train to Butterworth departs Bangkok at 1445 arriving the following day at 1351. Consider breaking the journey here as it is only 20 minutes by ferry to Penang which makes for a very pleasant stopover. Otherwise change for the 2330 train which arrives at KL Sentral station at 0635.
Total journey time including waiting is 40 hours. If stopping in Penang the trip is broken into two train journeys of 23 and 7 hours.
