To reach Penang from Bangkok take the direct train from Bangkok to Butterworth which departs at 1445, arriving in Butterworth the following day at 1351. Butterworth railway station is adjacent to the ferry terminal from where ferries to Penang (Georgetown) run regularly and take around 20 minutes.
